What is the responsibility towards the senior citizen?

I am 73 and retired, so I reckon I’m a bona fide “senior citizen” now. From my standpoint, I think there is no responsibility that god or nature has somehow enshrined for us old folks.

With that in mind, when I was a youngster, I was taught that each person is important to every other person for collective existence. I take this as a fundamental truth of life. We can embrace it or ignore it. We each have a choice what kind of world we want to make.

I would add this simple observation: If you’re REALLY lucky, you will get to be old. When that happens, it will be too late to remake the world to suit yourself. It is today that you are building the world in which you will live when you are old — if you make it that far.

Or, to put it in the simplest terms possible: Can you see past the end of your nose?

So, what do you think is your responsibility to yourself and your friends, when you are old? That’s the only responsibility that you have.
