Answer:

The seedling jamun plants start bearing after 8 to 10 years of planting, while grafted ones bear after 6 to 7 years. However, commercial bearing starts after 8 to 10 years of planting and continues till the tree becomes 50 to 60 years old. The fruit ripens in the month of June -July.

Jamun fruit is botanically known as Syzygium cumini and is produced on an evergreen tree that reaches up to 20 feet tall. In its native India, the fruit is also called Jambul or Jaam. The Jamun tree is revered by Buddhists; in Indian mythology, Lord Rama subsisted on Jamun fruit during his 14-day exile in the forest.

The tree, scientifically called Syzigium Cumini, Jambu Phalinda in Sanskrit, Jambu or Jamun in Hindi, or the Indian Blackberry in English, is one of the few trees indigenous to India, but can also be found in areas of Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan
