  • DNA short for Deoxyribonucleic acid,is the genetic material for organisms in addition to RNA. DNA is made up of a five carbon sugar known as Deoxyribose , a phosphate group and a nitrogenous base like adenine, thymine, guanine and cytosine

  • DNA is a double helical structure, whose ends run anti parallel to eachother

  • The phosphate groups make up the spine of the molecule and the nitrogenous bases are inclined perpendicularly to the spine

  • Adenine combines with cytosine while guanine combines with thymine

  • The sugar phosphate complexes are held together by phosphodiester bonds

This model of DNA was given by Watson and Crick
