5(x+6)=45

(I'm using

x

as the variable to solve for in this equation)

use distribution

5

x

+

30

=

45

then subtract

45

30

=

15

then divide to solve for

x

Given- the sum= 48

one of the two numbers= 6

To find- The number which when added to 6 and multiplied by 5 is 48.

solution- Let the second number be x.

so the equation will be 5(x + 6) = 48 [ given that five times the sum of a number and 6 is 48]

                  ⇒5(x+6)= 48

                  ⇒5x + 30 = 48

                  ⇒ 5x= 48 - 30

                  ⇒ 5x = 18

                   ⇒ x = 3.6

Hence, the number is 3.6 .
