and father's present age is y years,

son's age was (x-5 )years

fathers age was (y-5)years

then ,

y-5 = 7(x-5)

y-5= 7x-35

7x- y= -5+35

7x-y= 30...........(1)

according to the second stage,

after 5 years

son will be x+5

and father will be y+5

y+5= 3(x+5)

y+5=3x+15

3x-y=5-15

3x-y= -10.........(2)

after solving first and second equations ,

x=10

putting the value of x in first equation,

7(10)-y=30

70-30 =y

hence, y=40

Thus the present age of son is

10 years and father's age is 40 years.
