Five years ago, a mother was seven times as old as her daughter. Five years
hence, she will be three times as old as her daughter. Find their present ages.

Answer:

Let the age of daughter be x.

So 5 years ago her age =x−5

Her mother's age is 7(x−5)

Including 5 years from past to present and then to future =10

So 7x−35+10=3(x−5+10)

7x−25=3x+15

4x=40

x=10

so daughters age=10

mother's age=4×10=40.
