Let the present age of a be x and b be y
5 years ago
a's age = (5 - x)
b's age =(5-y)
ten years later
a's age =(x+10)
b's age =(y+10)
according to given condition
5 years ago
a = 3b
(5-x) =3(5-y)
5-x =15 - 3y
-x +3y =10......(i)
10 years later
a = 2b
(10 +x) = 2(10+y )
10 + x = 20 + 2y
x - 2y = 10 .......(ii)
from equation i and ii
-x + 3y =10
x -2y =10
y = 20
x = 50 years
therefore a = 50years
and b = 20 years
