Let x be the age of A and y the age of B 5 years ago.

Then 5 years ago,

x = 3y…..Equation 1.

10 years later, A will be (x + 10) years old while B will be (y+10) years old.

We know that 10 years later A is twice as old as B.

Therefore,

x+ 10 = 2(y+10)

From Equation 1, x=3y

Hence 3y+10= 2(y+10)

3y + 10 = 2y+20

3y-2y= 20–10

Hence y=10.

5 years ago A was 30 and B was 10

Present ages:

A= 35

B= 15.
