Answer :

  • Amit = 50 years old
  • Armaan = 20 years old

Explanation :

As the ages of Amit and Armaan are unknown,

Let,

  • Amit's age be 'x'
  • Armaan's age be 'y'

  • Amit = (x - 5)
  • Armaan = (y - 5)

Amit was three times old as Armaan,

⟶ (x - 5) = 3 (y-5)

⟶ (x - 5) = (3y - 15)

⟶ 3y - x = -15 - 5

⟶ 3y - x = 10

⟶ x = 3y - 10 -------- (1)

10 years later,

  • Amit = (x + 10)
  • Armaan = (y + 10)

Amit would be twice as old as Armaan,

⟶ (x + 10) = 2 (y + 10)

⟶ (x + 10) = (2y + 20)

⟶ 2y - x = 20 - 10

⟶ 2y - x = 10

⟶ x = 2y + 10 --------- (2)

Equating both (1) = (2),

⟶ 3y - 10 = 2y + 10

⟶ 3y - 2y = 10 + 10

⟶ y = 20

Substituting 'y' value in (1),

⟶ x = 3y - 10

⟶ x = 3 (20) - 10

⟶ x = 60 - 10

⟶ x = 50

  • ∴ Amit is 50 years old &
  • Armaan is 20 years old.
