Let the present age of Anu be x years

and Sonu present age be y years

According to given condition,

Five year ago anu was thrice as old as Sonu

Therefore,

Age of Anu = x - 5 years

Age of Sonu = y - 5 years

Anu was thrice as old as Sonu

x - 5 = 3(y - 5)

x - 5 = 3y - 15

x - 3y = - 15 + 5

x - 3y = - 10 ---(1)

Ten years later, there age will be

Age of Anu = x + 10 years

Age of Sonu = y + 10 years

Anu will be thrice as old as Sonu ,

x + 10 = 3(y + 10)

x + 10 = 3y + 30

x - 3y = + 30 - 10

x - 3y = 20 ---(2)

Subtracting Equation (1) from (2)

We get,

y = 30

Putting y = 30 in equation (1)

x - 3(30) = -10

x - 90 = - 10

x = 80
