Answer :- x = 40 and y = 10

Explanation :-

Let Jocab age be x and his son age be y years respectively.

According to the first condition we get,

(x + 5) = 3(y + 5)

x - 3y = 10 --- (1)

According to second condition we get,

(x - 5) = 7(y - 5)

x - 7y = - 30 ---(2)

From equation 1 and 2 we get

x = 3y + 10 ---(3)

Therefore substituting x = 3y + 10 in equation (2) we get,

x - 7y = - 30

3y + 10 - 7y = - 30

- 4y = - 40

y = 40/4

y = 10

Substituting y = 10 in equation (3) we get

x = 3y + 10

x = 3(10) + 10

× = 30 + 10

x = 40

Therefore, Jocab age is 40 years and his son age is 10 years.
