Five years ago, Nuri was thrice as old as Sonu. Ten years later, Nuri will be twice as old as Sony. How old are Nuri and Sonu ?

Let, Five years ago,

Sonu's age = x
nuri's age = 3x

After 10 Years,

Sonu's age = x + 5 + 10 => x + 15
Nuri's age = 3x + 5 + 10 = 3x + 15

According to the question,

3x + 15 = 2(x + 15)

3x + 15 = 2x + 30

3x - 2x = 30 - 15

x = 15

Present age of sonu = x + 5 = 15+5 = 20 years

Present age of nuri = 3x+5 = 3(15)+5=45+5=50years

Let the present age of Nuri be X and sonu be Y years.



Before 5 years age of Nuri = ( X -5) years


Before 5 years age of sonu = ( Y -5) years.



According to question,


( X -5) = 3(Y-5)


X -5 = 3Y - 15



X - 3Y = -15 +5




X - 3Y = -10 ----------(1)


After 10 years age of Nuri = ( X +10) years

After 10 years age of Sonu = ( Y+10) years


According to question,



( X +10 ) = 2( Y +10)



X + 10 = 2Y + 20

X - 2Y = 20 -10



X - 2Y = 10 -------(2)


From equation (1) we get,



X - 3Y = -10



X = -10+3Y ---------(3)



Putting the value of X in equation (2)

X - 2Y = 10


-10 + 3Y - 2Y = 10



Y = 10+10

Y = 20 years.

Putting the value of Y in equation (3)


X = -10 + 3Y = -10 + 3×20 = -10+60



X = 50 years.




Hence,



Present age of Nuri = X =50 years


And,


Present age of Sonu = Y= 20 years.
