Given that :-

  • Five years ago, Nuri was thrice as old as Sonu
  • Three years letters Nuri will be twice as old as Sonu

Find :-

  • Present age of Nuri & Sonu

Explanation

Let,

  • Present age of Nuri = x years
  • Present age of Sonu = y years

A/C to question,

(Five years ago, Nuri was thrice as old as Sonu )

➡ (x -5) = 3 × (y-5)

➡ x - 3y = -15 + 5

➡ x - 3y = -10 _________(1)

Again,

(Three years letters Nuri will be twice as old as Sonu)

➡ (x+3) = 2 × (y+3)

➡ x - 2y = 6 - 3

➡ x - 2y = 3 __________(2)

Subtract equ(1) & equ(2)

➡ -3y + 2y = -10 - 3

➡ -y = -13

➡y = 13

Keep value of y in equ(2)

➡ x - 2*13 = 3

➡x = 3 + 26

x = 29

Hence

  • Present age of Nuri ( x ) = 29years
  • Present age of Sonu ( y) = 13 years

⚔️ According to the Question,

⏩ (x - 5) = 3(y - 5)

⏩ x - 3y = - 10 ... (i)

And,

⏩ (x + 3y) = 2(y + 3)

⏩ x - 2y = 3 ... (ii)

⚔️ Subtracting equation (i) from equation (ii),

we get

⏩ x - 3y = -10

x - 2y = 3 【 symbol change 】

⏩ -y = -13

⏩ y = 13.... (iii)

⚔️ Substituting this value in equation (i),

⏩ x - 3 × 13 = - 10
