Step-by-step explanation:

Five years ago

Age of Ramu = x – 5 years

Age of Somu = y – 5 years

Ramu was thrice as old as Somu

X- 5 = 3(y – 5)

X – 5 = 35 – 15

X – 3y = -15 + 5

X – 3 y = - 10 ………..(1)

Ten years later,

Age of Ramu = x + 10

Age of Somu = y + 10

Ramu will be twice as old as Somu.

X+ 10 = 2(y+10)

X + 10 = 2y + 20

X – 2y = 10 ………..(2)

X – 3 y = - 10 ………..(1)

Subtracting equation (1) from equation (2) we get

Y=20

By putting this value in equation first we get

X−3×20=−10

X = 60 – 10

X= 50

Hence age of Ramu = 50 years and age of Somu = 20 years
