5 years ago, the age of the father was twice the age of his son..

F-5 = 2s

F+S = 70

Present ages of father and son:

solving the equations,

we get,

(70 - S) -5 = 2S

on solving this equation,

we get the son's age as 25..

Father's age is 45..

Let the present age of father be x yrs and son be y yrs...

Then, x + y = 70........(i)

And, x - 5 = 2(y - 5)
x - 5 = 2y - 10
x - 2y = - 10 + 5
x - 2y = - 5.........(ii)

Solving (i) and (ii) using elimination method,

x + y = 70
x - 2y = - 5
....................
3y = 75

Therefore, y = 25

Substituting y = 25 in (i)

x + 25 = 70
x = 70 - 25
Therefore, x = 45

Hence, the present age of father is 45 yrs and son is 25 yrs...!

Hope this helps...
