Answer:

let the total weight of A,B,C,D is x

therefore

x/4=46.5

x=186

after E

let E weight y

(186+y)/5=50.4

186+y=252

y=66kg

The weight of E = 46 kg

Given :

  • Five years ago the average weight of four persons A, B, C, D is 46.5 kg.

  • Now E joins the average weight becomes 50.4 kg

To find :

The weight of E.

(a) 45 kg

(b) 54 kg

(c) 46 kg

(d) 48 kg

(e) 50 kg

Solution :

Step 1 of 4 :

Calculate the sum of the weight of four persons A, B, C, D five years ago

Here it is given that five years ago the average weight of four persons A, B, C, D is 46.5 kg

∴ Five years ago the sum of weight of four persons A, B, C, D

= 4 × 46.5 kg

= 186 kg

Step 2 of 4 :

Calculate the sum of present weight of four persons A, B, C, D

Since the sum of the weight of four persons A, B, C, D five years ago = 186 kg

∴ The sum of present weight of four persons A, B, C, D

= 186 + (4 × 5) years

= (186 + 20) years

= 206 years

Step 3 of 4 :

Calculate the sum of present weights of 5 persons

When E joins the number of persons = 4 + 1 = 5

The average weight of 5 persons 50.4 kg

∴ The sum of present weights of 5 persons

= 5 × 50.4 kg

= 252 kg

Step 4 of 4 :

Calculate the weight of E

The sum of present weight of 4 persons = 206 kg

The sum of present weight of 5 persons = 206 kg

The weight of E

= 252 kg - 206 kg

= 46 kg

Hence the correct option is (c) 46 kg
