Let jacob's age = x yrs.
Let jacob's son age = y yrs.
So
Five years hence
Jacob age will be x-5 yrs
Jacob's son age will be y-5 yrs.

x-5 = 3(y-5)
x-5 =3y-15
x+3y=10 ........(1)
Five years ago
Jacob age will be x+5 yrs.
Jacob son age will be y+5 yrs .
A.T.Q
x+5 = 7(y+5)
x+5 = 7y+35
x-7y = 30 .........(2)
By elimination method,
Subtract (1) from (2)
x-7y = 30
x+3y = 10

4y = 20
y = 20/4
y = 5
Put y = 5 in (2)
x-7(5)=30
x-35=30
x=30+35
x=65
Jacob age = x =65 yrs.
Jacob son age = y = 5 yrs.
