Answer:

John's age is 40 years and her daughter's age is 10 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the john's age be x and her daughter's age be y

After 5 years,

5 + x  =  3(y + 5)

5 + x  =  3y + 15

x - 3y =   15 - 5  =  10                       ..........(i)

5 years Before,

x - 5  =  7(y - 5)

x - 5  =  7y - 35

7y - x =  30                                       .........(ii)

Solving both the equations,

-3y + 7y  =  10 + 30

      4y    =   40

       y     =   10 years

substituting the value of y in (i)

x - 3(10)  =  10

x - 30     =   10

       x     =   30 + 10  =  40 years
