the law of definite proportion, sometimes called Proust's law or the law of definite composition, or law of constant composition states that a given chemical compound always contains its component elements in fixed ratio (by mass) and does not depend on its source and method of preparation.

Heya user,

Fix ratio by mass means that in a formula unit of any compound formed by the combination of two or more elements there will be a simple whole number ratio between the masses of the elements in that particular compound. And if the number of the formula unit increases in that situation also the ration remain unaffected.

EXAMPLE-: In H2O , we see that there are 2:1 ratio between the masses of hydrogen and oxygen respectively.
Suppose if we took 5 molecules of H2O, then also the mass ratio will be 2:1.

This os basically the law of chemical combination.

Hope this will help
