Zero valent iron nanoparticles were prepared by simple wet chemical method. The nanoparticles exhibited a corn flake like morphology as seen by AFM and were 80-90 nm in size. SEM Images showed that the nanoparticles in suspensions were typically self assembling in larger structures and then into super structures while relatively maintaining their cornflake morphology. The antibacterial activity of these nanoparticles was tested on four common bacterial strains casuing digestive problems. Upon serial dilutions, it was seen that the nanoparticles have excellent bacterial activity upto a dilution of 1:64. The cellular death process can be attributed to the fact that these nanparticles are capable of entering the cellular membrane resulting in oxidative stress.
