Because light travels faster than sound at any given medium.....here the medium is air....where speed of light is 3×10^8 m/s whereas speed pf sound is only 340 m/s..

The speed of sound (344 m/s) is less than the speed of light (3 x 10^8 m/s).

Sound of thunder takes more time to reach the Earth as compared to light.

Hence, a flash is seen before we hear a thunder.
