Flooding of rivers cannot be caused by soil erosion is it true or false

Explanation:

They both can cause each other. For example, in a forest with heavy deforestation, the trees are removed and the soil is compacted by machinery. When it rains, the soil cannot cling onto the roots and such to stay in place and the compacted soil cannot absorb the water. During heavy rains the water runs off causing floods and eventually soil erosion.

Likewise, soil erosion may lead to flooding as well because without the soil’s ability to absorb water, downstream flooding can occur creating off-site problems. The water in the floods is excess so when the water flows it even takes the soil with them so that's how floods cause soil erosion.

The statement is FALSE

  • Topsoil is the layer of the soil which lies nearest to the surface of the land and comprises essential nutrients for crops.
  • It is this layer of soil that is threatened by wind and water erosion.
  • Soil erosion reduces soil fertility, which can adversely impact crop outputs. It furthermore transmits soil-laden water downstream, which can build heavy layers of sediment that curb streams and rivers from flowing smoothly and can ultimately lead to flooding of rivers. Once soil erosion arises, it is more inclined to occur again.
  • Therefore the statement is False
  • Hence, Flooding of rivers can be caused by soil erosion
