Schiemann reaction involves the preparation of fluorobenzene from benzene diazonium salt.

  • Schiemann reaction is a reaction in which an aromatic amine is converted to aryl fluoride through the formation of a diazonium salt intermediate.
  • An aromatic amine, aniline is treated with nitrous acid in presence of tetraborofluoric acid.
  • The resultant intermediate, diazonium tetrafluoroborate, yields fluorobenzene on heating.
  • The reaction is given below in the attachment.
