When the producers recieve sunlight,most of the energy is lost to the environment as heat, few goes for growth and reproduction.
Therefore only 10% of energy is passed to the next trophic level by the organism as itself.
This is called 10%LAW PROPOSED BY LINDEMAN.
Therefore as full organism is dead there is no energy reverting back.
For ex,consider the food chain
Grass -Deer-Lion.
If grass recieves 1000J of energy only 100J (10%of 1000)goes to deer and 10J goes to lion.
