Flowering plants are classified as angiosperms. There are a wide variety of species of angiosperms, including everything from tulips and roses to trees like magnolias and dogwoods to vegetables and fruits like tomatoes. Any plant that uses flowers for reproduction, and therefore grows flowers at some point during their life cycle, is classified as an angiosperm. Non-flowering plants, by contrast, are called gymnosperms.
