Answer:

1) Hypogynous flowers : Ovary occupies the highest position while other parts are situated below it.

Ovary is superior.

e.g., Mustard, china rose, brinjal.

2) Perigynous flowers : Ovary is situated in centre and other parts of flower are located on the rim of thalamus almost at the same level.

Ovary is half inferior.

e.g., Plum, rose, peach.

3) Epigynous flowers : Margin of thalamus grows upward enclosing the ovary completely and getting fused with it, other parts of flower arise above the ovary.

Ovary is inferior.

e.g., Guava, cucumber, ray flotets of sunflower.

Answer:

Three types of flowers based on the position of ovary with respect to other floral parts are hypogynous, perigynous, and epigynous.

Explanation:

  • The location of the ovary within a flower determines the type of flower: Hypogynous, perigynous, and epigynous are the three classifications.
  1. Hypogynous- if the stamens, petals, and sepals are joined to the receptacle beneath the ovary. In this instance, the ovary is thought to be superior. You may be familiar with examples like tomato, tulip, and snapdragon blooms.
  2. Perigynous- if the sepals, petals, and stamens are joined at the base to form the hypanthium, a cup-shaped structure inserted below the ovary. In this instance, the ovary is still superior. An illustration will be provided later in this website section (cherry, Prunus).
  3. Epigynous- if the ovary's top or an inserted hypanthium is the source of the sepals, petals, and stamens. An epigynous flower has a subpar ovary. A lab example was the daffodil. Additionally, the daffodil possesses a hypanthium.
