Fluorine is a better oxidising agent than iodine because 2) Fluorine has smaller atomic radius than iodine
Reason:
- Fluorine has smaller atomic radii as compared to Iodine , but has same magnitude of charge in ionic form.
- As a result , the charge : size ratio is much greater for fluorine as compared to iodine.
- Hence , F can easily accept electron and attain a noble gas configuration (F-) and become reduced.
- Once , it itself gets reduced , fluorine can oxidize other reagents.
- Hence , oxidising capacity of fluorine is greater as compared to iodine.
Hope It Helps.
