Fluorine is a better oxidizing agent than Iodine because

1.Fluorine is less stable than iodine

2.Fluorine has smaller atomic radius than iodine

3.Fluorine is more reactive than iodine

4.F- ion have greater electron attracting power than I- ion

Fluorine is a better oxidising agent than iodine because 2) Fluorine has smaller atomic radius than iodine

Reason:

  • Fluorine has smaller atomic radii as compared to Iodine , but has same magnitude of charge in ionic form.

  • As a result , the charge : size ratio is much greater for fluorine as compared to iodine.

  • Hence , F can easily accept electron and attain a noble gas configuration (F-) and become reduced.

  • Once , it itself gets reduced , fluorine can oxidize other reagents.

  • Hence , oxidising capacity of fluorine is greater as compared to iodine.

Hope It Helps.
