Flutters of Thought
I wish that I could wrap my words
around each fleeting thought
that flits and flutters through my mind,
a moth that won't be caught.
If only it would light awhile
and rest it's restless wings
I'd wrest the words to weave cocoons
to hold such lovely things
as poetry and lyrics to
the tunes that float through time
and touch the hearts of all who hear
with magic in their rhyme.
- Susan Eckenrode
Summary
The poet in this poem tries to reflect the idea that words are sometimes not sufficient or capable enough to capture some of her thoughts. The poet wishes that she could wrap her thoughts with words so that it cannot fly away. This unsteady group of thoughts tends to move quickly without pausing.
She wishes to catch the moth when it sat motionless without flapping its wings. She also wants to weave a coccon around those lovely thoughts and imprison them until it matures and become a butterfly or moth. She would love to portrait all these into a beautiful poem or song. In short she is talking about the magic of thoughts which know no limit or boundaries.
