1. A parasite generally causes harm to a certain degree to the host body, which it is harboring the parasite. A human embryo or a fetus developing in the mother's uterine cavity does not usually cause harm to the mother, although it acquires proper nutrition and care from the mother.
2. Parasites are the invasive organisms which come from an outside or external source. A fetus is formed from an inside or internal source which is the fertilized egg.
3. A parasite makes direct contact with the host's tissues by holding on to the tissues like intestinal lining, lungs, connective tissue, etc., by their mouthparts, hooks etc.. A human embryo or fetus is in contact with the uterine lining of the mother only for a short period of time. After some time, it becomes isolated and stays in its own amniotic sac. Then, it makes indirect contact with the mother only by the umbilical cord and placenta.
