Bhojpuri is an Indo-Aryan language spoken predominantly by 51 million people in Northern-Eastern region of Mainland India and the Terai region of Nepal. It is chiefly spoken in western Bihar, northern Jharkhand, north eastern part of Madhya Pradesh and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The constitution of Nepal has given it the status of national language of Nepal along with other native languages of the country. With 51 million speakers, it is 8th most spoken language in India and 3rd most spoken language in Nepal and ranks 26th in the list of languages with most native speakers in the world and 33rd in the List of languages by total number of speakers. Sociolinguistically, Bhojpuri is often considered one of several Hindi dialects. The language is a minority language in Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius, South Africa, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
