Let f(x) = x³ - ax² + x + 2.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Given : (x - a) is factor of f(x), by cor. 2 to factor theorem, f(a) = 0.

➻ a³ - a.a² + a + 2 = 0

➻ a³ - a³ + a + 2 = 0

➻ a + 2 = 0

➻ a = -2

❖ Therefore,

  • Hence, the value of a is -2.
