The movement of food though a wave like motion is known as peristalsis

EXPLANATION:

The food in our alimentary canal is not dependent on gravity it moves through a special motion known as peristaltic movements.this takes place due to the contraction and relaxation of circular and longitudinal muscles.

we can see this movement in the oesophagus, stomach,intestine etc...
