Food
Every organism needs energy to carry on with the process of living. This energy comes free
food. Food also provides the material needed for the growth of the body. It helps to repas
injured tissues, for example, skin and bones in the case of cuts and fractures. It is needed
to continually replace old tissues, for example, hair, blood and skin. Lastly, it helps to build
resistance against diseases and to fight infections, and enables the body to recover after
illnesses. In short, all organisms (including plants) need food for the following reasons.
1. To get energy
2. For growth, repair and maintenance of the body
3. To fight diseases
