Simply put, the less you process food, the better it is for the body. Processed food, while tasty, kills the nutrients in the food. For example, while milk contains vital proteins, calcium and minerals, ice cream, sweetmeats, etc, all made from milk, add fat in the body.

Also one should take food based on the physical exercise during the day. Those who perform desk jobs should avoid food with high calorie content.  On the other hand, those performing physical labour should consume things like bananas, rotis, rice, etc, that is food rich in carbohydrates.  

Also, there should be adequate gap between meals, about 4 hours. One should avoid eating again and again, since the body is unable to secrete digestive juices in adequate quantities to digest the food, and that then leads to fat.
