According to the question the total distance travelled by the car is 40000 kilometres.
Now you have to read the question carefully 40000 km is the total distance travelled by the car but not by the four wheels.
So the distance travelled by the four wheels will be 4 times 40000 that is 160000 km.
Now while calculating the average distance travelled by each tyre we have to consider the spare tire as well because it was mentioned that all the tires are equally used.
Therefore the average distance travelled by each tire is one fifth of 160000 that is 32000 km.
