For a convex lens focal lens is positive.
the object is always placed at the left of the lens(negative) on the x axis.
rays coming from the object actually meat on the focus which is at opposite(positive) side
so focal length is positive.

It's always positive.. Because when the image and object are at two different sides of a lens then the focal length is positive..
