Given,

Mean = 60

To FInd,

The new mean if the number of observations in each class is doubled =?

Solution,

From the formula of grouped frequency distribution we know,

Mean =  ∑fx / ∑f

Mean  = 60 = ∑fx/∑f

According to the question, the number of observations in each class is doubled that is

Mean =  ∑2 * fx/∑2 * f

Mean =   (∑fx/ ∑f) * (2 / 2)

Mean = ∑fx/∑f

Mean = 60 = ∑fx/∑f

Mean = 60

Hence, if the number of observation in each class be doubled then find the new mean the mean of the grouped frequency distribution will remain the same which is 60.
