The rate of decomposition of N₂O₅ is 0.06 mol L⁻¹ min⁻¹
Given-
- Initial concentration of N₂O₅ = 7.2 mol
- After 20 min concentration of NO₂ = 2.4 mol / L
For the first order reaction-
kt = ln A₀/At
where k is the rate constant, A₀ is the initial concentration and At is the concentration at time t.
By substituting the values we get
k × 20 = 2.303 log (7.2/2.4)
k = 0.06 mol L⁻¹ min⁻¹
