For a reaction 2n2o5give 4no2+o2, Initial concentration of n2o5 is 7.2mol and after 20 min not is 2.4 mol then what will be the rate of decomposition of n2o5 in mol

The rate of decomposition of N₂O₅ is 0.06 mol L⁻¹ min⁻¹

Given-

  • Initial concentration of N₂O₅ = 7.2 mol
  • After 20 min concentration of NO₂ = 2.4 mol / L

For the first order reaction-

kt = ln A₀/At

where k is the rate constant, A₀ is the initial concentration and At is the concentration at time t.

By substituting the values we get

k × 20 = 2.303 log (7.2/2.4)

k = 0.06 mol L⁻¹ min⁻¹
