Given:

Number of observations = 100

Assumed mean = 4

Sum of deviations = 11cm

Square of deviations = 257cm²

To Find:

Coefficient of variation

Solution:

In the case of discrete frequency distribution, let di be the deviation about A,

therefore, di = xi - A,

x = ∈fi ( A + di)/fi

where A is arbitary point

Thus,

4 - 11/100

= 3.87

n = √∈d²/n - ∈(d/n) ²

= √257/100 - ( -11/100) ²

= 1.6

Coefficient of variation = n/x × 100

= 1.6/3.89 100

= 41.13

Answer: The coefficient of variation is 41.13.
