GIVEN

For all values of x , f(x) = x², g(x) = x + 3

TO DETERMINE

A) Find fg(5)

B) Find gf(5)

EVALUATION

Here it is given that for all values of x ,

f(x) = x², g(x) = x + 3

Now

f(5) = 5² = 25

g(5) = 5 + 3 = 8

Thus we get

fg(5)

= f(g(5))

= f(8)

= 8²

= 64

Again

gf(5)

= g(f(5))

= g(25)

= 25 + 3

= 28

Here it is given that for all values of x ,

f(x) = x²

and,

g(x) = x + 3

Now finding values by substituting x = 5

  • f(5) = 5² = 25
  • g(5) = 5 + 3 = 8

we get,

⇒ fg(5)

⇒ f(g(5))

⇒ f(8)

⇒ 8²

64

then,

⇒ gf(5)

⇒ g(f(5))

⇒ g(25)

⇒ 25 + 3
