explanation : for any anion X³- , the mass no 14.

but we know, mass no = no of protons + no of neutrons

so, 14 = no of protons + no of neutrons ......(1)

again, X³- ion has 10 electrons.

so, number of electrons in element X = 10 - 3 = 7

now, number of protons = number of electrons present in element X = 7

from equation (1),

so, number of neutrons in X = 14 - 7 = 7

then, number of neutrons in X2(nucleus) = 7 × 2 = 14
