The temperature of any substance remains constant during the change of state because the heat energy supplied is used up in changing the state of matter and also the heat is used for breakage of several bonds for alternative forces. This heat which does not raise the temperature of the body is called latent heat.

For any substance ,the temperature remains constant because the heat and energy provided to the substance is used up in the changing of state and in breaking of attraction between the particles.
