because when state is changed the latent heat is evolved the heat which is required to convert 1kg of solid/gas into liquid due to lh.like when any substance is boil at 100degree Celsius the temp remains same doesn't exceed from 100due to latent heat bc when substance is boil then thatheat is not raised the temp Latent heat means hidden heat

The temperature of any substance remain constant during the change of state because the heat energy supplied is used up in changing the state of matter and also this heat is used for breaking of several bonds or attractive forces.This heat, which does not raise the temperature of the body, is called Laten heat.
