He knows that Obito is responsible based off of two events:

   When Naruto first meets Minato

2. When Naruto latched onto the ten tails chakra to suck it out of Obito.

In the first occurrence Naruto learns that the masked man(Obito) orchestrated the Nine tails attack on the Leaf. However he doesn’t know how he went about doing so.

In the second, Naruto sees Obito’s life so far, which I imagine includes the attack on the Leaf.

What’s special about all of this is that Naruto is able to forgive Obito for indirectly killing his parents. That’s a hard thing to do. But it makes sense when you think about it.

Through fighting Pain, Naruto learned that vengeance isn’t the answer to finding peace. Forgiveness is. Him looking at Obito’s life story with a nuanced point of view(instead of cherry-picking the bad parts) puts Naruto above those who’d lambast Obito as a simple war criminal. Naruto learned to view everyone as human all the way back in the Zabuza Arc.

That’s character developement!

Naruto not only forgives Obito, but he asks him to join the fight against Madara to redeem himself. That’s what makes Naruto a great hero/role-model.
