Answer:

  1. 3/5
  2. 1/5
  3. 2/5

Given:

  • For arranging a biodiversity park in a school 2/5 of the total land is needed for a butterfly park.
  • 1/3 of the remaining land is needed for star forest.
  • The remaining part is for a pond

To find:

  1. How many parts of the remaining land are for other needs?
  2. What part of the whole is needed for the star forest?
  3. What part is needed for the pond?

Solution:

1. the total land needed for butterfly park= 2/5

let land needed for other things be X.

land needed for another things= total land- land needed for butterfly park

total land = 1

X = 1 - 2/5

X= 3/5

so, the land needed for other things is 3/5.

2. 1/3 of the remaining land is needed for star forest

land needed for star forest= 1/3 x 3/5 = 1/5

so, the part of the whole needed for star forest = 1/5

3. part needed for pond= total land- (land needed for butterfly park+ land needed for star forest.)

part needed for pond= 1- (2/5 + 1/5)

part needed for pond= 1- 3/5

so, the part needed for the pond is 2/5
