i) In chlorine atom:

Atomic no.(Z) = no. of electrons = no. of protons = 17

No. of neutrons = atomic mass - no. of protons

= 35 - 17 = 18

ii) In chloride ion:

No. of proton = 17

No. of electron = 18

No. of neutron = 18
