i)alluvial soil:
it is formed by the deposition of water
found to a depth of 500m
yellow in colour
deficient in nitrogen, tends to be phosphoric
suitable for the growth of a large variety of kharif & rabi crops such as cereals,cotton, oilseeds, and sugarcane
ii) black soil:
it is formed due to disintegration of basalt.
it is also called black cotton soil bcoz cotton thrives well on it.
black soil has been formed in situ.
rich in iron, potash, lime, calcium, alumina, magnesium, carbonates, and humus
deeo, fine-grained & varying in colour from black to chestnut brown.
iii) red and yellow soil:
it is formed by weathering or crystalline & metamorphic rocks and has a mixture of clay and sand.
it is red in colour bcoz of its high iron oxide content.,colour varies frm chocolate brown to yellow
rich in potash
porous, friable but not retentive of moisture
wheat, rice, millets, cotton, sugarcane, pulse grow in this soil
iv) laterite soil:
laterite soil is formed by leaching of lateritic rocks.
red in colour.
poor in nitrogen and lime, rich in iron.
soft and friable.
coarse in texture.
v)Forest soil:
forest soil are mainly found on the hill slopes.
these mountains soils are found in hilly regions of jammu and kashmir, sikkim, arunachal pradesh, and assam.
these soils occupied over 8% of total land area of india.
these soils are formed due to mechanical withering caused by snow, rain, temperature, variation etc.
nearly, we can grow any crops in forest soil.
