Distance

1. The distance travelled by a body is the actual length of the path covered by a moving body irrespective of the direction in which the body travels.

2. The distance travelled has only magnitude.

3. Distance is scalar quantity.

4. The distance travelled by a moving body cannot be zero.

5. SI unit of distance is metre or m.

6. For example the distance between my school and my home is 50 metres.

Displacement

1. When a body moves from one position to another the shortest ( straight line ) distance between the initial position and the final position of the body, along with direction, is known as displacement.

2. Displacement has magnitude as well as direction.

3. Displacement is a vector quantity

4. Displacement of a moving body can be zero.

5. SI Unit of displacement is metre or m with directions.

6. The car moves 50 metres towards east.
