Answer:

In concave mirror, using sign convention. u=−10cm ... (b) again using sign convention. u=−5c ... v=+15cm. Image is formed at a distance of 15 cm behind the mirror .

Sign convention for concave mirror will be f=-5cm, u=-10cm, v=+10cm

Given:

Concave mirror

f=5cm

u=10cm

v=10cm

To find:

Sign convention for concave mirror.

Solution:

  • Concave mirror is a type of spherical mirror which is curved inwards.
  • In concave mirrors the objects are always placed infront of the mirror hence the sign of object distance (u) is negative (-).
  • In concave mirrors the focal length of the mirror lies infront of the mirror hence the sign of focal length (f) is negative (-).
  • In concave mirrors if the images are formed infront of the mirror then the sign of image distance (v) will be negative (-). and if he images are formed behind the mirror then the sign of image distance (v) will be positive (+) .

Therefore, the sign convention for concave mirror will be f=-5cm, u=-10cm, v=+10cm.
