For doing sum work ganesh takes 10 days more than John. If both work together they complete in 12 days. Find the no of days if both do alone.

thus ganesh would take x+10 days for the same work

now one day work of john = 1/x

and one day work of ganesh  = 1/(x+10)

working together they complete whole work in 12 days

thus one day work by them  = 1/10

now we have

1/x + 1/(x+10) = 1/12

12(x+x+10) = x(x+10)

⇒ x^2-14x-120= 0

 (x-20)(x+6) = 0

x = 20,-6

thus x = 20

time to complete the work alone by john = 20 days

time to complete the works alone by ganesh  = 30 days
